It is no secret that good literature holds sway over every grown-up — and over everyone who considers themselves one. What you will find here is a chance to travel in something very much like a prototype time machine. Don’t believe it? Let me let you in on a secret: seeing for yourself is the easiest thing in the world — all it takes is imagination.
So — off we go!
“Compatriots in Reason”
You are carried straight back to May 1988, to the shore of Lake Kucheryavoye, where the adventures of Semyon Sankovsky and his friends are about to begin. They are set in motion in equal measure by the hero’s youth and by his unexpected collision with a perfectly ordinary UFO pilot.
“Totem of the Night”
You find yourself at a wind-swept autumn crossroads at night, in a small town in the Polesian woods, where a militia patrol is about to spot a reckless driver. No one yet suspects this is the prologue to the arrival of werewolves — and to a few moments as sharp as wolves’ fangs.
“Incubator” I and II
Under these two covers, as in a real incubator, all sorts of stories were carefully raised and then gathered together. Funny ones and rather less funny ones, mostly fantasy, though some are pure science fiction — such as the one about a tour guide for aliens and the peculiar difficulties of his job.
All good things to us all!

About me

Oleh Hotko
I was born back in the last century in Sourenzh — an ancient place, so they say — whose name has since slid down to the plain «Rivne». Perhaps that is why, after school, I set off for Lviv, where I had the dubious pleasure of studying at a railway transport college. Diploma in hand, I was packed off to the Soviet army, and carried away from it a firm dislike of everything issued by the state and, all the more, of everything Soviet. And since I served my time in Sevastopol, the sea grew tiresome too — though with the years, as they say, it has eased off a little.
In 1993 I published my first collection of novellas and short stories, «Incubator»; over the years my work has appeared in various Ukrainian and Russian anthologies («Rovno Bayunnoye», 2005; the magazines «VIP» and «Gorod s Iznanki», 2011, and others). I worked as a journalist for the local press; today I am a freelancer.
In 2011 I won the All-Ukrainian Young Cinema Festival with the screenplay for the short film «Anfilada». And in 2025 — the ceremony had been held back three years by the war — I received a «Koronatsiya Slova» diploma for the feature screenplay «Woodpeckers of Fate».
